Bangkok’s contrasts and charms are well documented. What’s new to the City of Angels is to see the interaction of those Bangkok’s contrasts so stylishly presented. SO/ Bangkok brought together five of the best Thai designers to design a modern hotel that does just that. This urban hotel’s unique room designs provide a synergy of contrasts that SO/ perfectly summarizes this vibrant, sexy city.
You live through your emotions, sociable one moment, serene the next. You peruse the best hotels in Bangkok to fit your mood and can’t decide – enter, SO/ Bangkok. The best Thai designers have collaborated to create the first genuine urban design hotel in Bangkok. Its unique room designs promise a personalized experience in each of its 237 rooms and suites . The trees, ponds and soil in Lumpini Park outside provide a fitting backdrop for the hotel’s Five Elements theme.
Water, Earth, Wood, Metal and Fire. The park’s five elements are evident in each of 4 unique room themes, each with a different layout and décor. The result is a boutique hotel in a luxury size, complete with elevated park and city views with world-class cuisine.
You’re at one of the best hotels in Bangkok . The only question remaining is – which element is your mood in today?
The first element, water, conveys sophistication and calm . From the panoramic windows to the floor-to-ceiling glass panels of the walk-in closet, each Water room induces clearness and transparency. Onyx and ebony are used by visionary designer,Pongthep Sagulku, to induce a deep sense of serenity, like still water. High ceilings give added dimension to that emotion as the sound of trickling water seeps in with a soothing presence. A beautiful, round bathtub is positioned exactly beside the panoramic bathroom windows, providing a gentle aquatic experience. If you’re feeling posh and stylish today, Water is the room for you.
The second Element is Earth – Wonder and Enrichment . Design genius Vitoon Kunalungkarn has made his mark as one of the best Thai designers in Bangkok. He has turned to the cool tranquility of cobalt blue to craft an Earth-themed space with aura and enrichment. An oversized bed draws your attention to the center of the open-plane space. The open bathroom in the Earth suites and rooms display a black and white Art Deco style . Textured and frosted glass walls, pale marble and a sunken bathtub serves as a place to escape and contemplate. If you’re feeling especially playful or mysterious today, you’re in your element here.
The third Element in our themed rooms, Wood , denotes Elegance and Tranquility. The aesthetic appeal of Northern Thai architecture highlights the understated calm induced by the Wood Element. Teak shutters and rooftop rafters let the balmy sunlight in. Silk murals depicting old Siam come to life on the walls. The down-to-earth nature of the room’s teakwood furnishings are highlighted with orange and cream. Nithi Sthapitanonda is the artist behind our design hotel and brings a chic energy to his work. The Wood rooms are a stunning space befitting the trendy luxury of our urban Bangkok hotel. This element is the perfect nest for our harmonious, peaceful guests.
Metal, signifying Purity and Modernity, is the last of our themed suites. The visionary work of Somchai Jongsaeng defines him as one of the best Thai designers alive today. His Metal theme sets frosted glass against black and white to highlight the edgy nature of Bangkok’s pace and past. Stillness and light reflect off the smooth, white surfaces in the room, contrasting with the bustling, frenetic world outside. Time and space transcend frenetic Bangkok as soon as the black stainless door opens to the room’s pure light. This space was created for the minimal , fresh-natured guest.
